- Abstract
This article discusses the European aspects of Francophone Canada stemming from the settlement of the North-American continent as "New France." This lead to the creation of the literary myth of the "New World" as symbolic of "regeneration' as it combined the civilization of Europe with the savage nature of the Americas. This dynamic is examined through the historical fiction novel "Le pas de l'ourse" by Douglas Glover. Other themes of the article include French-Canadian ethnicity, children in literature, and cultural identity.
