- Abstract
A study published in the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery examines the impact of sublobar resection versus lobectomy on patient-reported outcomes in early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study found that segmentectomy, a type of sublobar resection, may offer a functional benefit over lobectomy, with a reduced risk of postoperative deterioration of dyspnea and less current dyspnea reported by survivors of NSCLC. The study highlights the importance of patient-reported outcomes in assessing quality of life and the perceived change in dyspnea. However, the study acknowledges potential biases and suggests further research to explore the benefits of segmentectomy in patients with poor lung function. Overall, the study contributes to a better understanding of patient experiences and can inform future patients' informed consent.
