- Abstract
The composition and antioxidant activity of the leaf essential oil from Altingia chinensis(Champ.) were investigated. The GC-MS analyses as well as comparison of the Kovats retention indices (KI) of elution peaks with reported data were used in compound identification of the essential oil; two in vitro methods were used in the preliminary evaluation of antioxidant activity for the essential oil. The essential oil is constituted mainly by sesquiterpenes (62.39%) and dominated with bicyclogermacrene ( 10.71% ), (E)-caryophyllene (9.96%) and α-muurolene (8.92%). The essential oil has a moderate radical scavenging and anti- peroxidation effect in lipid system. The antioxidant activity of the essential oil is possibly associated with its sesquitemoid compounds, such as 5-hydrexycalamenene (2.97%), cubenol(1epi-) (3.12%), (Z)-α-santalol (2.12%) and so on.
