- Abstract
The article analyzes the depiction of racism in the book "Benito Cereno," by Herman Melville focusing in the character Captain Delano. The author argues that Melville's place of race and racism in the themes and characters in "Benito Cereno" is similar to the use of racism and race by Harriet Beecher Stowe in "Uncle Tom's Cabin.
