- Abstract
The article discusses a study that combined published data with new mitochondrial sequences to propose a phylogenetic hypothesis of the deep-sea octopuses of the genus Graneledoe and describes a new record of Graneledone. The work was based on 4 Granelodone specimens captured off south-central Chile with one of them collected by trawling during a cruise dedicated to the study of methane seep sites and the other 3 obtained as by-catch from commercial fishing activities. It suggests that the preference of the species for the given sites is only a consequence of the locally enhanced abundance of potential prey and availability of hard substrate generated by carbonate reefs at seep sites.
