What Matters More in Growth Companies: The Leader or the Idea?
- Authors
Wyld, David C.; Maurin, Robert
- Abstract
The article discusses growth companies and the importance of leadership and ideas in building a successful business. The focus is on a study by Steven Kaplan of the University of Chicago, Berk Sensoy of the University of Southern California, and Per Strömberg of the Swedish Institute for Financial Research which examined the initial public offerings (IPO) of 50 companies. The business plans, IPO filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the annual reports after the IPO are mentioned. The researchers suggest that venture capitalists base their decisions on the business idea rather than the management leader.
