- Abstract
The article "ICM 1954: The Queen and Mathematics" reports on the 12th International Congress of Mathematicians, which took place 70 years ago in Amsterdam. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands received the congress participants in her castle in Soestdijk. The congress took place from September 2nd to 8th, 1954 and had 1553 regular participants, including 207 from Germany. The American mathematician John von Neumann gave a technical lecture on quantum theory, which caused some unrest. Further information and photos are available in the Dutch National Archives.
