Title
Artist's work honours tradition of healing in the military.
Abstract
The article focuses on "First Steps," a painting by Ottawa-based artist Karen Bailey, which is one of a series on military medical personnel that she painted following a 2007 trip to Afghanistan as part of the Canadian Forces Artists Program (CFAP). The painting features an eight-year-old girl that Canadian soldiers brought to the hospital at the main military base after she had been severely wounded in a Taliban attack. It is said that CFAP revives the tradition of military art.
