- Abstract
Introduction: Perceptions of health and fitness are listed as correlates of physical activity in adults. The objective of the study was analysing these perceptions according to gender, age, and involvement in leisure time physical activity (LTPA). Materials and Methods: These perceptions, LTPA, Finnish Physical Activity Index were assessed through a valid questionnaire in 3 representatives samples (approximately 1,100 12 to 16/17 year-old secondary school students), in 3 provinces of South of Spain. Results: Male adolescents showed higher perceptions of health and fitness than female adolescents in all provinces. Discussion: In groups characterized by a high Finnish index of physical activity, from 65% to 70% of males and from 60% to 70% of females thought that they felt to have a very good health and physical fitness.
