- Abstract
Introduction: Obtaining sport success depends on many factors; one of them is the coach leadership style. This study was aimed to know leadership styles performed by synchronous swimming coaches, analyzing the relation between this style and the swimmers' performance. Materials and Methods: 102 Spanish swimmers from three different categories (infantile, youthful and absolute), and the Leadership Scale of Sport (LSS) was applied. Results: Collected data indicate that in all categories swimmers with a better performance show a style of leadership related to a greater authority and capacity for taking independent decisions, whereas the aspects related to training and instruction in abilities are predominant in the infantile category. Conclusion: Our results seem to confirm the importance of coaches' leadership characteristics for an adequate performance in synchronous swimming.
