- Abstract
The article discusses the ruling of the Supreme Court of Chile which upholds the conviction and sentence of Miguel Krassnoff Martchenko, Juan Manuel Contreras Sepúlveda and others after the abduction of Miguel Angel Sandoval Rodríguez. It notes the decision of the court to hold the offence as aggravated abduction following the forced disappearance which is defined in the international human rights law and international criminal law. It also mentions that the decision of the Supreme Court is to have a decisive impact on future human rights cases with respect to certain principles of international law. Moreover, it cites that a significant and commendable step towards accontability for international crimes committed during the Pinochet era is made by the Supreme Court of Chile.
