- Abstract
The influence of trophic/feeding resources on the survival capacity has been studied for the zoophytophagous species Macrolophus pygmaeus Rambur (Hemiptera: Miridae). The different trophic resources, offered alone or in combination, were: water (direct or via the plant), a plant (tobacco), and a prey (eggs of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller; Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). The trophic regime strongly influenced the longevity and the survival of adults of both sexes. The water (direct or via the plant) was necessary for survival. The plant, compared to direct water, did not have a significant effect on the longevity but positively influenced the survival. A positive effect was observed when water and prey were offered simultaneously.
