- Title
The Filipino Migration Experience: Global Agents of Change by Mina Roces, Ithaca, NY, Cornell University Press, 2021, ix + 254 pp.
- Abstract
What Roces offers global Filipino migration history is important for underscoring the "heroic narrative" in curated migrant archives. Reconstructing Filipino migrant identities and subjectivities as social change agents (Burgess 2004) are enduring themes in Philippine global migration histories. She examined Filipino migrants' projects toward Philippine social change through diasporic philanthropic activities: fundraising for underprivileged sectors and medical missions conducted as partnerships between migrants and Filipinos at home (pp. 149-50).
