- Abstract
The possible loss, degradation and disuse of the industrial heritage has generated an interest for its study and preservation since the end of last century. This reveals the need to develop investigations that attempt to undertake actions for their protection. This paper explores examples of light industry architecture in the republican period of Santiago de Cuba, employing a critical architecture methodology. The research was aimed at characterizing the architecture of the buildings, paying attention to their urban sitting, and to the expressive value of their facades. The results demonstrate the existence of factories of small and larger-scale production that show signs of relationship with the built heritage in the city from its adequacy to urban profile, forming an industrial legacy that by its architectural quality is an inseparable part of cityscape.
