- Title
Why do we need mining, anyway?
- Authors
Kogel, Jessica Elzea
- Abstract
The article discusses why mining is a necessary activity. The author argues that without mining and the mineral industry, none of the artwork that she saw on her travels to Siena, Italy would be possible. Topics include the disconnect between reality and the public's understanding of minerals and mining, the role of the U.S. Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) in mining education and outreach, and the Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) program.
