- Title
Moving portraits: portraits in performance in 24 City.
- Authors
Schultz, Corey Kai Nelson
- Abstract
A criticism of the film "24 City," with a focus on the use of filmed portraits, is presented. Topics include the use of motionless long portraiture takes, the intimacy of moving portraits, and analysis of the contemplative or direct portrait gazes. Other topics include the director Jia Zhangke's book "A Collective Memory of Chinese Working Class," the socialist-realist gaze, and the casual nature of the friendly portraits.
