- Abstract
Rock mass is composed of rock and discontinuity network. The strength model of discontinuity plays a decisive role in rock mass stability analysis. The application of Barton-Bandis criterion in failure mode identification of rock mass was discussed in detail. Firstly, when structural plane obeys Barton-Bandis criterion, the value range of the dip angle of structural plane when it is yield was deduced, and the judgment of structural plane yield was proposed. The correctness of the theoretical derivation result was verified by numerical simulation method. Based on the result of theoretical derivation and assuming rock obeys Mohr-Coulomb criterion, a fast identification method for the failure modes of rock mass was proposed. The failure modes of rock mass are divided into no failure, failure along structural plane, failure along rock and failure along both rock and structural plane, and the correctness of the identification method was verified. The results provide theoretical guidance and technical support for rock mass structural failure identification in engineering practice.
