Biology: Turning tail.
Abstract
The article reports on the escape behavior of leopard gecko also known as Coleonyx brevis, which toss their tails to distract predators as published in the "Biology Letters." The author states that Timothy Higham from Clemson University in South Carolina and Anthony Russell at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada have implanted electrodes to study the tail of the gecko. The study shows that the tail of the gecko performs complex acrobatics such as flips and lunges.
