The article examines the Tiktaalik roseae, a link between fishes and land vertebrates found in Late Devonian river sediments on Ellesmere Island in Nunavut. Tiktaalik is a flattened, superficially crocodile-like animal, with a skull some centimeters in length. The ears and limbs of Tiktaalik relate to the origin of new structures in tetrapods.
