- Abstract
The article is a review of the book "El lenguaje. En busca de las primeras palabras. Origen" by Mercedes Conde Valverde. The book focuses on aspects of anatomy related to oral production and auditory reception of speech. The author believes that there is an excessive bias towards the peripheral in the paleoanthropological perspective of language evolution. The importance of clarity and updating of the book's explanations is highlighted, as well as the discrepancies in the use of terms such as "hardware" and "peripheral" in relation to language. The enigma of the evolution of a "hardware" capable of supporting the computational demands of language is also mentioned, and the idea that human language appeared suddenly and only in our species is criticized. The works of Robert Berwick and Noam Chomsky on FOXP2 mutations and their possible role in the connection between the computational system and the language externalization system are mentioned. Overall, the lack of communication and mutual understanding between biolinguists and paleoanthropologists is emphasized.
