The article explores the thematic connection between Wordsworth's concern about thoughtless carelessness and David Foster Wallace's observation of cultural desperation in the late 20th century. It argues for reading Wallace through the lens of the sublime, examining the overlap between the Romantic and postmodern sublime in Wallace's nonfiction, focusing on two seminal essays and emphasizing the integration of these concepts into discussions of Wallace's literary journalism and sincerity.
