- Abstract
Music, which is a tool that shares people's joys, pains, ideologies, feelings and thoughts, has started to be used as an advertising tool by adapting to today's capitalist system. Brand installations, which are frequently encountered in movies, TV series, books and many sociocultural fields, have now begun to show themselves in songs. In this study, the use of brands in songs was examined and analyzed using the content analysis method. In this direction, the "2019-2020 Spotify Top 30 Most Listened Foreign Songs" list was selected as the main population, and seven songs in which different brands were placed were accepted as samples. The study was carried out based on the data between 10.10.2020 and 01.01.2021. Since it is not possible to measure the actual number of listeners of the songs, the official video viewing figures published via Youtube were taken into account. It is highly likely that these listener-viewer numbers, which are taken as a baseline for the songs included in the sample, will reach a listener more than the official view count. According to the results of the content analysis of the songs in the sample, a total of 17 brands were placed. It has been seen that car brands are placed throughout the songs. It is seen that many brands place it in songs as a status show.
