Museumsdirektoren nehmen Stellung: Argumentationen, Intentionen und Geschichtsbilder in der Restitutionsdebatte der frühen 1970er Jahre.
- Authors

- Abstract
In the spring of 1974, the directors of four museums in Baden-Württemberg collaborated in writing a position paper on the restitution of cultural objects in accord with UN Resolution 3187, passed in December 1973. This resolution deplored the »wholesale removal, virtually without payment, of objets d'art from one country to another.« The origins of the directors' paper and its argumentation offer insight into their cultural-policy network and provide some indications of their intentions and their views about the colonial past, the history of their museums' collections, and the newly independent countries demanding the return of cultural objects. Ms article examines this early debate on social intercourse with objects from colonial contexts as part of a still relevant and still developing discourse.
