- Abstract
The article "The Exorcism of the Possessed and the Liturgical Reform" deals with the history and compromises of the Roman Catholic Church in dealing with the phenomenon of evil. The Rituale Romanum by Pope Paul V. from 1614 contained a liturgy of exorcism for the possessed, which remained largely unchanged. The Second Vatican Council commissioned the revision of this liturgy, which took a long time. Finally, a renewed liturgy of exorcism for the possessed was published in 1999. The article describes the publication of the liturgical book on exorcism for the possessed in 1999 and discusses various elements of exorcism and liturgical practice. It is pointed out that there is little information about the actual practice of exorcism in the renewed form and that there is likely a high number of unapproved exorcisms.
