- Abstract
The liturgies in the St. Ruprecht community in Vienna have been celebrated for 36 years in the Ruprechtskirche. The community emphasizes the careful and experimental design of the liturgy and sees itself as a product of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. The liturgies are prepared by the liturgy group and are not mere "readings" from liturgical books, but rather prepared events. The community has the freedom to question liturgical regulations and try out alternatives, while at the same time feeling committed to the liturgical tradition of the Church. The liturgies at St. Ruprecht have developed various "places" in the worship service to better utilize the space. The community gathers in the main and side aisles, while the liturgy of the Word takes place at a lectern on the edge of the apse. After the liturgy of the Word, the community proceeds to the altar for the procession of the gifts. There are also other "places" in the church space, such as the baptismal font and the altar with the glass sarcophagus of Vitalis. The liturgies at St. Ruprecht also experiment with the biblical texts that are read and interpreted in the worship services. They expand the lectionary and pay special attention to the readings from the Old Testament. There are also sermon series on non-biblical topics. The liturgical language and the songs play an important role and are oriented towards the language of the biblical poets.
