- Abstract
The article discusses how documentary filmmakers can collaborate with communities in the production of their films. The author notes the rise in popularity of documentaries and how corporations and communities use documentaries for their own purposes. She discusses subjective, objective and journalistic elements to documentary films and how community media resources allow the public access to filmmaking equipment. Efforts of the production company Video/Action to collaborate with nonprofit organizations to produce documentaries and outreach work by the production company Kartmquin Films are noted. College teacher Andy Garrison's work to teach documentary filmmaking to University of Texas (UT) students is discussed.
