- Title
Impasses and Teacher Contract Outcomes.
- Authors
Delaney, John Thomas
- Abstract
The article investigates the impact of strike and compulsory arbitration use on teacher nonwage bargaining outcomes in Iowa and Illinois. The results of cross-sectional analyses provide no evidence that the use of either strike or interest arbitration affects the favorability of union contracts to teachers. There is no evidence that any of the arbitration variables influence labor contract changes in Iowa public schools. The collective bargaining law covering teachers in Iowa contributed to the better contract outcomes in the state as compared in Illinois, which has no bargaining legislation.
