- Abstract
Behice Boran, both in Turkish political life and in Turkish academy is an important name as a politician and academic who first referred to by many. Boran has managed many significant achievements as the first female Marxist sociologist of Turkey. In the 1960s, she has gained an important place in active politics. Boran, in the 1965 elections, has entered Turkey's parliament as a deputy of Workers' Party of Turkey and in 1970, she was elected chairwoman of her party; also has been the first woman party leader in Turkey. Boran's academic life and political life form an organic integrity in her life; this integrity adds a totality to Boran's intellectual identity. The study deals with the construction of Boran's intellectual identity; it is structured in four basic sections. In the first part, the concept of intellectual is problematized from the theoretical perspective of the study. In the second part, the life story of Boran is discussed. In the third section, Boran's activities during his academic career and sociologist identity are evaluated. Finally, in the fourth chapter, Boran's active tasks carried out in the party is concerned. In conclusion, in this study, Boran is regarded as the organic intellectual of the working class and the specific intellectual of the masses based on the theory of intellectual of Antonio Gramsci and Michel Foucault.
