- Authors
Yokoyama, Kazumasa
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study that investigates the relationship between drug resistance and amino acid substitutions in DNA gyrase of Mycobacterium leprae which causes severe disabilities by damaging peripheral nerves. It reflects on the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) leprosy that are resistant to dapsone (DDS) and rifampin (RIF). It mentions that fluoroquinolones inhibit type II DNA topoisomerases, DNA gyrase, and topoisomerase IV that play important role in DNA replication.
