- Abstract
This document provides a summary of several cases of comedogenic chronic lupus erythematosus (CCLE) and its treatments. CCLE is a rare variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) characterized by thickening and degeneration of the basal layer of the skin, lymphocytic infiltrate, and comedonal dilation. The exact cause of CCLE is unknown, but it is believed to be related to inflammation and destruction of the pilosebaceous unit. Treatments for CCLE include topical and systemic steroids, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and medications such as hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, methotrexate, and dapsone. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important to prevent complications.
