- Abstract
Specialists from various spheres, labour law, economics and finance, labour economics, statistics, sociology, public policy, human resources and psychology, analyse this topic. The world economy is constantly facing serious difficulties, arising from natural economic fluctuations and global challenges. Due to various decisions (structural changes in the organisation), it is difficult for companies and organisations to keep their employees. If the situation is not kept under control, companies must reduce the number of employees, and in some cases layoffs are made en masse. This article analyses the reasons for the dismissal of employees, examining situations of the dismissal of groups of employees. The theoretical part discusses works by scientists and specialists who have analysed and studied the topic, and related it to the dismissal of group employees. Based on statistical data from Lithuania from 2018 to 2022, the article performs an analysis of the groups, and analyses the scale of group layoffs and their distribution by region, presents reasons for layoffs, examines areas of business activity, and looks for reasons why the decrease occurred. In addition, options for services provided by state institutions for employees who may face dismissal in groups of employees are presented. During layoffs, people experience great stress and are unable to make rational decisions. It is especially difficult for older employees to find and return to new jobs (they need to present themselves, and prepare a resume). In the case of group layoffs, there is serious competition, because workers are from the same profession and look for work in the same area. It is important that an employer takes action when employees have received a warning about their expected layoff but are still working in the company. They can start the process with the Employment Service.
