The article discusses the U.S. court case Santana-Diaz v. Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. where in Dionisio Santana-Diaz, a disabled employee filed a claim after he received short-term disability benefits under the plan. The First Circuit Court of Appeals defects the disability benefits plan's notice of benefits denial under Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) regulations after failing to meet the plan's deadline for bringing legal action.
