- Abstract
The article explores the journey to open the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, D.C. It had taken a century before the museum was officially opened in September 2016. It was in 1915 that African American soldiers gathered in the city in commemorate the end of the U.S. Civil War. Lonnie Bunch, founding director of the museum, is recognized for making the project a reality.
