- Abstract
The article discusses the role of the Workers' National Committee (WNC) during World War I and its significance to the wartime labour movement in Great Britain. It looks at WNC's influence over the armed forces, working-class conditions, food supply, and employment and wages. It also argues against its function in fourfold including as a campaigning organization, a cohesive force for the Left, and as a means of communication between the centre and the periphery.
