- Title
La adopción de una huérfana: una escultura neoclásica en Bogotá.
- Authors
Monsalve, Juanita
- Abstract
Rebeca is one of Bogota's most traditional sculptures. The Ministry of Infrastructure, with the conservative politician Laureano Gomez at its head, bought it in 1926 to place it in a strategic setting. But by choosing a neoclassic piece they established that particular aesthetic as socially accepted and they turned their backs to other artistic expressions. The text also goes over the imaginaries that have been created around the sculpture and, using public documents from that time, it sets straight the piece's authorship, which had been wrongly attributed for over 50 years.
