- Title
Billion Dollar R & D Program Gets Plowed Under.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the performance of Hempstead Co., the first private company to grow a domestic industrial hemp crop. It relates that the company has its research and development fields seized and secretly plowed under by the local California Narcotics Task Force, which will cause losses of over 200 legal jobs and over $50,000,000 of local revenue. The company's economics as an alternative sustainable crop show that it can and will provide fiber, cellulose, seed oil, and lignins for plastics. It can produce 3-4 tons of fiber per acre over 100 days and has a seed oil yield of at least 300-400 gallons per acre.
