- Authors

- Abstract
Dr. A.T. Pearsall, first baseman of the great pre-Civil War Excelsior Club of Brooklyn, is now remembered as a curious footnote in history. As usually told, "Aleck" Pearsall chose to serve in the Confederate Army, leading to his being expelled from his old club. But the story ends there, leaving no end of unanswered questions. Using military records and other primary sources, this article presents Andrew Thustin Pearsall's life in more detail, showing that the name "Aleck" is almost certainly a mistake and filling in many missing details.
