- Abstract
The article focuses on a study by co-author Gregory R. Blaha on the use of topical anesthetics in easing the pain caused by intravitreal injection. The study involves 24 patients who have been administered with either proparacaine, tetracaine, lidocaine pledget and subconjuctival lidocaine. Average pain scores for the anesthetics are given which include 2.8 for proparacaine, 3.1 for tetracaine and 3.0 for lidocaine pledget. Blaha believes that topical anesthesia is safe, effective and quick.
