- Title
Endothelial damage preventable in cataract surgery.
- Authors
Cimberle, Michela
- Abstract
The article focuses on preventing endothelial cell loss during cataract surgery. It states that the use of a well-balanced irrigating solution that simulates the natural makeup of the aqueous is an important component of safe cataract surgery. The use of low-viscosity dispersive ophthalmic viscosurgical devices (OVD) is recommended as they stick to the corneal endothelium, preventing air bubble damage during phacoemulsification. The soft shell technique for cataract removal that was introduced by doctor Steve A. Arshinoff is also described.
