- Abstract
The Portuguese revolutionary process that took place over the period of twoyears, from 1974 to 1975, positioned the country at the center of international political debates. The entry of the Portuguese Communist Party into the government brought suspicion among the partners of the OTAN and its political strategy caused discomfort among European communists, especially among Italian communists, determined to take up a reformist project in accordance with the democratic pluralism rules. The main purpose of this article is to analyse how the Italian press interpreted the role of the PCP during the April Revolution. We consider that the Italian press regarded the PCP as an obstacle to the process of transition towards a parliamentary and pluralist democracy, using the PCI as a discursive referential. The priority is given to a qualitative analysis of journalistic texts published by newspapers Corriere della Sera and La Stampa.
