- Authors
Hodson, Christopher; Rushforth, Brett
- Abstract
The article discusses the French colonization of the Americas and its effects on U.S. history and culture. Particular focus is given to the inclusion of French colonialism in the study and teaching of early American history. According to the author, examining the French Empire's role in North America can help historians to frame the continent's history both before and after the establishment of the U.S. and to bridge several gaps in the historiography of North America. Topics discussed include French Africa, the Caribbean, and the Seven Years' War.
