- Title
A REEVALUATION OF THE FREMONT UINTA GRAY POTTERY FROM DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT, UTAH/COLORADO.
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of petrology for the understanding of ceramics found at archaeological sites. The example is presented of Uinta Fremont pottery, which was believed to have been tempered with calcite. Petrographic analyses of sherds from Uinta Fremont sites in Dinosaur National Monument indicated that the Uinta Gray Ware actually used limestone temper. It is recommended that a petrological database for ceramics should be developed in order to aid in the correct classification of the various types of Native American pottery.
