- Abstract
Estudos epidemiológicos destacam uma redução na prevalência de cárie, no entanto, a condição socioeconômica enquanto fator determinante à ocorrência de cárie faz com que certos grupos populacionais sejam mais vulneráveis. Nesse cenário, a população em situação de rua é detentora de péssimas condições de saúde bucal. Objetivo: avaliar as consequências clínicas decorrentes da cárie dentária não tratada na população em situação de rua em Teresina-PI, por meio da utilização do índice PUFA. Material e método: Foi um estudo transversal realizado entre janeiro a outubro de 2018, com amostra não probabilística por conveniência dos frequentadores do Centro de Referência Especializado para População de Rua de Teresina (PI). Um questionário sociodemográfico foi aplicado e exames clínicos foram realizados por um único examinador, treinado e calibrado, utilizando o índice CPO-D (cárie) e PUFA (consequências da cárie não tratada). Foi realizada análise descritiva dos dados e aplicados os testes de Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Spearman, Games-Howell e Regressão de Poisson para análise das variáveis. Resultados: a amostra consistiu de 176 participantes, sendo 86,4% do sexo masculino. 98,9% apresentaram CPO-D ≥ 1 e 38,6% apresentaram PUFA ≥ 1. O CPO-D foi de 11,00 (±6,95) e o valor do PUFA foi 0,82 (±1,41), sendo relação PUFA/Cariados de 22,59 (±37,07). Pessoas na faixa etária de 37- 43 anos apresentavam 3,3 vezes maior prevalência de PUFA que as demais faixas. Conclusão: o índice de cárie não tratada, PUFA, foi elevado, com maior desenvolvimento de PUFA entre 37-43 anos.
