- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the use and usefulness of life narratives in the field of human resources management. The specificity of this qualitative methodology is to facilitate our understanding of the meaning of human and social phenomena (Paillé, 2006). It is therefore argued that this method contributes to collect rich data, in a particular context, linking past, present and future. Two empirical studies demonstrate the value of this tool in two fields : management of skills and intra-national geographic mobility fields. We compare this method with others and validate the transfer from ethnosociology to human resources. Findings indicate the meaning of workers' behavior, their representations and their relation with change. These findings provide precious help for managers in the way they pilot change.
