- Abstract
The article highlights the career of Alan Lomax, a freelance journalist, broadcaster, record producer, and folklorist. Lomax was born in January 1915 in Austin, Texas to folklorist John Lomax. The article traces his apprenticeship while going on folk music collections trips with his father to being a radio broadcaster and producer and finally to filmmaking and to his global jukebox dream project. In 1989 he became director of the Association for Cultural Equity and research associate in Anthropology at Hunter College in New York City.
