- Title
An enzyme cofactor with a split personality.

- Abstract
The article discusses a study conducted by researchers S. J. Kern and colleagues on the dual role of the ubiquitous cofactor magnesium (Mg2+) in adenylate kinase (Adk) cycle. The study reveals that Mg2+ accelerates phosphoryl transfer's on-enzyme rate and contributes to the conformational change of lid-opening. Other topics include the function played by protein dynamics in enzyme catalysis, mapping exchange of enzymes, and the function of lid dynamics in catalysis of Adk.
