- Abstract
Gendered Capitalism: Sewing Machines and Multinational Business in Spain and Mexico, 1850-1940 By Paula A. de la Cruz-Fernández. Drawnwork, an important component of Mexican art embroidery, is mentioned, along with other lacemaking techniques, but there are no technical details or illustrations of how this traditional counted-thread manual technique was adapted for the sewing machine. De la Cruz-Fernández draws extensively - and effectively - on archival sources, including those of Singer in the United States, Spain, and Mexico.
