- Abstract
This article discusses a case of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) without encephalopathy, a condition characterized by headache, seizures, visual disturbances, and encephalopathy. Typically, PRES affects the subcortical white matter of the brain, but in this case, the brain stem and deep nuclei were prominently involved. The patient presented with severe headache, vomiting, and elevated blood pressure. MRI scans showed vasogenic edema in the basal ganglia, thalamus, brain stem, and cerebellum, with no involvement of the parieto-occipital cortex or white matter. The article highlights the rarity of PRES without encephalopathy and suggests that the term "Posterior Reversible Vasogenic Cerebral Edema Syndrome" may be more appropriate in such cases.
