- Abstract
The article evaluates the impact of taxation on cigarette consumption using a recursive model that includes a retail price equation and a dynamic demand equation. It specifies a structural model for cigarette demand and price equations. It describes the data and variables. It presents the equations and estimation methods used in the study and offers policy implications and conclusions. The authors also cite efforts by federal, state and local governments in raising revenues and reducing cigarette smoking.
