- Abstract
The Xinchang Basin in eastern Zhejiang is the second largest diatomite ore enrichment area in my country. It contains a series of Miocene diatomite deposits and is an ideal object for studying Cenozoic paleoenvironment. This paper takes the diatomite in Fuquanshan ancient volcano in Shengzhou area as the research object, and discusses the geochemical characteristics of diatomite and the paleoenvironment of its formation. Fuquanshan diatomite has relatively low SiO2 (61.3%-69.4%) and high content of Al2O3 (14.6%-17.9%) and rare earth elements, indicating that it contains more clastic substances. In terms of trace element composition, compared with the associated Shengxian Formation basalts, it is significantly enriched in large ion lithophile elements and light rare earth elements, and has negative anomalies of Eu, Nb, and Ti, similar to Cretaceous acidic volcanic rocks. The detrital material in diatomite may mainly come from the weathering and denudation of the surrounding Cretaceous acidic volcanic rocks. According to the chemical weathering index of diatomite and other parameters, combined with previous research results, it is believed that the Fuquanshan diatomite deposit was mainly formed in the wet and warm freshwater lacustrine environment of the Miocene, which is consistent with the drought in eastern Zhejiang in the Paleogene The environment is quite different, reflecting the dramatic transition of the tectonic geomorphology in eastern China at the turn of the Paleogene-Neogene.
